Vision;

Excel kids’ Academy program is a ministry project of Excel ministies-Uganda. The academy is founded on the vision and need to produce a Christ centered, innovative, creative, all rounded children. We do this through education, discipleship and hands on learning.

 

Why Excel Academy?

Education is a foundational building block for any society. A nation with a poorly educated population will struggle to thrive and become a breeding ground for corruption and poverty. Unfortunately, current mode of education in Uganda is gained through rote learning. This produces graduates that can pass government tests but have little knowledge and capacity to enable their futures.

Excel Academy aims to catalyze character based, practical and innovative learning in Uganda by educating and empowering children. We truly believe that change begins with the next generation.

Our environment is home based than traditional school set up. This allows children freedom to be/explore who they are without traditional/institutional school restrictions. It also affords us dedicated attention and detail to each child’s academic, character and personal development.

 

At Excel we follow SWCH ~ Switch as our model. The idea is to Skill Whole CHild with life skills. We focus on 3 areas:

1. Head: With the knowledge obtained from class
2. Heart: discipleship and character development. We use materials and training obtained from One Hope Ministries. This includes the 17 stories of the bible -from Genesis to the gospels-which are taught in a dramatic and engaging way for children. We equip our teachers to teach and add these values to their lessons.
3. 3. Hands on learning: With practical skills such as urban farming projects, Weaving, tailoring, shoe making, poultry, piggery, farming, etc. Each child is attached to a particular skill/project based on their natural abilities. The overall objective is to raise them as entrepreneurs, job creators and problem solvers than job seekers.

Music and talents development

God has given our children beautiful talents that need to be identified, natured and harnessed. They will use their God given talents as a form of worship for him, and service to humanity.

 

Practical science and innovation

We love innovative learning of science and other subjects. We create models for innovative learning at excel kids academy for both natural and physical sciences. Our natural sciences models include, Blood circulatory system, human body Digestive system, human body Excretory system; while our physical sciences models include the Electric bell, Bore hole, Periscope, Pinhole camera and Microscope. These and many others help children to be practical and creative learners than theoretical

 

Digital skills

We are looking at the Scratch programming language. Through coding, we hope to train our children, teachers, in the 21st-century skills of collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication.

 

Excel village;

Excel kids Academy is nested within the Excel village, home to our urban farming and practical science projects. The main aim of the center is to be a center of inspiration, practical and innovative learning for both children and adults. This gives our children a natural environment of learning  through experimentation and application of classroom ideas!

 

 

 

Sustainability building projects support;

You can support us in any of the following sustainability building projects;

 

• Piggery – Sponsor/support our pig rearing project. It costs roughly $150 to rear a pig to 6 months
• Poultry- Poultry rearing project for protein provision. It costs roughly $ 300 to buy and rear 100 chickens up to laying
• Rabbitry- Children love them for their meat. They also provide manure that supports our vegetables. It costs roughly $ 200 to construct a rabbit hatch that can house 20 rabbits
• Agriculture – You can support our Staple food production, namely maize, beans, sweet potatoes & more. This provides us with a food bank to reduce expenditure. It costs $350-$400 to grow an acre of maize, beans or potatoes.

One off infrastructural/development support

Children need and deserve a great environment for their cognitive, social, and emotional development. You can Join us in making this dream a reality by supporting one of the following.

• Our new building construction, for dormitory, classrooms, chapel, and dining room. Cement & sand- supports our building projects.10 bags cost roughly $95, 100 bags cost roughly $950. A truckfull of sand costs from $150-$500 depending on size
• Children recreation/play center (swimming pool, basketball/ netball courts to develop our athletic talents.
• Learning center ground paving.
